Best Facebook Ads Agency for Car Dealerships: How to Choose.

Dealer Facebook ads depend on a live inventory feed, financing rules that change your targeting, advertised prices the FTC is watching and lead handling that reaches the BDC fast. Here is how to judge an agency on each.

The best Facebook ads agency for car dealerships builds campaigns from your live inventory feed, declares the Financial products and services special ad category on every campaign that promotes financing, keeps advertised prices in line with FTC guidance, and measures results in appointments and units sold from your CRM, not form fills in Ads Manager.

Facebook and Instagram are where shoppers who are not yet searching for a model see your inventory, your payments and your service offers. For how we run dealer marketing across channels, see our car dealership page.

What Facebook and Instagram can do for a dealership.

  • Inventory in front of in-market shoppers. Meta's developer documentation groups its automotive products under Automotive ads: automotive inventory ads show vehicles from your inventory, and automotive model ads promote vehicle models and offers. Both run from a catalog, so the right units follow shoppers who viewed them on your site.
  • Offers and events. Model year closeouts, lease specials, trade-in events and certified pre-owned stock all work as short, dated campaigns.
  • Local audiences. Dealers sell inside a market area. Targeting a radius around the store keeps spend on people who can drive in.
  • Retargeting. Shoppers who viewed a vehicle detail page, started a credit application or submitted a trade form can be shown that vehicle, similar units or a reason to come back.
  • Fixed ops. Service and parts offers to owners in your market keep the service drive busy between sales cycles.

The hard parts of Facebook ads for car dealers.

  • Financing triggers a special ad category. Meta's Marketing API documentation says that from January 2025, US advertisers and ads shown to US audiences must use the Financial products and services special ad category for financial products and services campaigns, and ads may be rejected without it. Credit offers are a subset of that category. An ad that promotes auto loans, financing rates or payment offers belongs in it; a vehicle or service ad with no financing offer does not, by the category's definition. Check Meta's current help article for lease, 0% APR and in-house payment plan offers before launch.
  • The category changes targeting. In that category Meta fixes ages at 18 through 65+, requires all genders, does not allow location exclusions, requires at least a 15 mile radius around a location in the US, removes behavior and demographic targeting, and makes lookalike audiences unavailable. A dealer that runs financing offers needs a separate plan for those campaigns.
  • Disclosures. Meta's advertising standards say ads for loans and credit must target people 18 or older and include disclosures required by law. Finance and lease ads need the terms your state and federal rules require, written into the creative.
  • Advertised price. On March 13, 2026, the FTC announced warning letters to 97 auto dealership groups saying advertised prices must be the total price, including all mandatory fees, that consumers will be required to pay. The FTC listed practices such as advertising rebates not available to all consumers, conditioning the advertised price on dealer financing and advertising unavailable vehicles. Prices in catalog ads come from your feed, so the feed has to be right.
  • Stale inventory. Sold units still running in catalog ads waste spend, so the feed must update as units sell.
  • Lead handling. Leads land in the CRM, the BDC calls them, and someone records whether they showed and bought. If that chain breaks, Meta optimizes toward people who fill forms and never visit.

Lead ads, landing pages and speed to lead.

Instant forms on Facebook and Instagram collect more leads at a lower cost, but often with lower intent. Sending shoppers to a vehicle detail page or a dedicated offer page asks more of them and tends to produce buyers further along. Most dealers need both: catalog ads to vehicle pages, and lead forms for trade-in, credit or event offers.

Either way, response speed decides the outcome. Leads should sync to the CRM the moment they arrive, with the vehicle and campaign attached, so the BDC calls with context. Then the Conversions API can send appointments and sales back to Meta, with the same event ID on browser and server copies so Meta counts each event once. Our Conversions API setup guide covers the mechanics.

Questions to ask in the first call.

  • How would you connect our inventory feed, and how fast do sold units leave the ads?
  • Which of our campaigns would need the Financial products and services category, and how would you target them?
  • How do you check advertised prices and finance terms before they run?
  • Which CRM fields will each lead carry, and how will the BDC see the vehicle and source?
  • How will you report appointments, shows and units sold by campaign?
  • What creative would you test first for sales, and for service?
  • Who has access to the ad accounts and catalog, and what are the notice terms?

Red flags.

  • Payment or APR ads running with lookalike or narrow age targeting, which Meta does not allow in the category.
  • Prices in ads that exclude mandatory fees or assume dealer financing.
  • Sold units still showing in catalog ads days after they leave the lot.
  • Results reported as leads and clicks with no link to appointments or sales.
  • Guaranteed cost per lead or sales numbers before anyone has seen your market and inventory.

How pricing usually works.

Dealer Facebook ads agencies usually charge a flat monthly management fee, a percentage of ad spend, a fee per rooftop, or a mix. Creative and feed setup can be included or billed separately. Ad spend is normally paid to Meta directly. Ask how the fee changes with spend and rooftops, and what the notice period is.

At Theory Road, pricing is quoted in conversation once we understand the goal, and management is month to month after an initial term.

FAQ.

What is the best Facebook ads agency for car dealerships?

The best Facebook ads agency for a dealership runs ads from your live inventory feed, declares the Financial products and services category on financing campaigns, reviews prices against FTC guidance, routes leads to your BDC with vehicle details and reports appointments and units sold. Theory Road runs dealer Facebook and Instagram ads this way for franchise and independent stores.

Do car dealer ads need a special ad category on Facebook?

Campaigns that promote financial products and services, such as auto loans, financing rates or payment offers, must use the Financial products and services category for US audiences. Vehicle and service ads without a financing offer generally do not. Check Meta's current help article for lease and payment plan offers.

What are automotive inventory ads?

Automotive inventory ads are Meta's catalog ads for dealers. They show vehicles from your inventory to people who are likely interested, using your feed and pixel data. Meta's automotive model ads promote models and offers instead of specific units.

Should dealers use Facebook lead ads or send traffic to the website?

Usually both. Catalog ads go to vehicle detail pages, while lead forms suit trade-in, credit and event offers. Whichever you use, the lead has to reach the CRM and the BDC immediately.

How should dealers measure Facebook ads?

By appointments, shows and units sold by campaign from the CRM or DMS, with gross where you can tie it.
