For supplement brands

Amazon, DTC and paid media built for supplement brands.

Supplement brands grow on repeat orders, not first orders.

The first bottle is bought on a claim, a creator or a search result, and the business is made or lost on whether bottle two, three and four arrive on schedule. We run the whole loop: Amazon listings that clear the dietary supplement testing policy, Subscribe and Save, a Shopify store with Recharge and Klaviyo built around the reorder date, and paid media on Meta, Google and Amazon Ads written inside what DSHEA and the FTC allow. We run our own Amazon Professional Seller accounts with Brand Registry, so the Seller Central work is done by people who live in it, not people who read about it.

How this business works

Where growth is won or lost in supplement.

A supplement brand is a subscription business wearing a product costume. The first order usually comes from a creator video, an ingredient search on Amazon or a Meta ad, and it often loses money once fees, freight and ad cost are counted. The profit lives in the second through tenth orders. That makes the reorder moment the most valuable point in the whole business, and it is the one most agencies never touch, because it sits in Recharge settings, Klaviyo timing and Subscribe and Save rules rather than in an ad account.

Amazon is usually the largest channel and the most fragile. The dietary supplement testing policy means a listing can go inactive because a document expired or a label changed without the listing being updated. Resellers buy discounted stock and undercut the Buy Box. Reviews arrive slowly unless Vine and packaging inserts that follow Amazon rules are planned from launch. Meanwhile the DTC site is judged on Meta results that are capped by health policy, and prior vendors often pushed claims that got accounts restricted instead of building durable creative.

Theory Road runs both sides as one system. We keep Amazon compliant and protected through Brand Registry, build Subscribe and Save and Recharge around real serving math, and write every ad, A+ module and creator brief as a structure and function claim. Then we scale acquisition by ingredient and goal on Amazon Ads, Meta, Google and creator programs, and judge it on subscribers and contribution margin across both channels. Because we sell on Amazon ourselves, the Seller Central work is done hands-on, week by week.

What holds growth back

The problems we fix in supplement brands.

  • Listings pulled for testing documents

Amazon requires third-party testing and verification for dietary supplements, and an ASIN can be suppressed when the documents, label and listing do not match. Most brands find out the day the listing goes inactive.

  • Claims that trip every platform at once

One aggressive line about fat burning or immune protection can get a Meta ad rejected, an Amazon listing flagged and an FTC problem started. Copy has to be written as structure and function, then substantiated.

  • Subscribers who churn at bottle two

Brands pay to acquire a subscriber, then lose them because the reorder lands when half a bottle is left or the flow never explains how to take it. Subscription revenue leaks quietly in Recharge.

  • Amazon and DTC fighting each other

Price gaps between Shopify, Amazon and unauthorized resellers teach customers to wait for the cheaper channel. Without Buy Box defense and a pricing plan, the brand competes with its own inventory.

Integration, automation and data.

Orders, subscriptions and refunds from Shopify, Seller Central and Recharge rolled into one view by SKU, so reorder rate, contribution margin and subscriber lifetime are visible without spreadsheet stitching.

  • Brand Registry protectionUnauthorized reseller monitoring, test buys, Brand Registry reports for counterfeit or listing hijacks, and Buy Box alerts, so expired or diverted stock stops undercutting the brand.
  • Attribution for mixed channelsTriple Whale or Northbeam set up with clean pixels, server-side events and Amazon Attribution tags on off-Amazon traffic, so creator and Meta spend is judged on halo sales too.
  • Support and review routingGorgias tickets tagged by product and issue, with adverse event mentions routed to the brand for handling, and Okendo or Yotpo reviews synced into ads and product pages.
Site blueprint

What a great supplement website contains.

The pages that do the selling for this kind of company, and what each one has to do to turn a visit into a call.

  • Home page by goal

Routes shoppers by goal such as sleep, energy or digestion, shows testing and sourcing proof above the fold, and puts the subscribe offer where returning buyers expect it.

  • Product page with supplement facts

Dose per serving, form, full supplement facts, certificate of analysis link, how to take it, reviews, and subscription pricing, with the DSHEA disclaimer next to the claims.

  • Ingredient pages

One page per key ingredient explaining what it is, typical research, forms and dosing, linking to the products that contain it. Built for organic search and AI answers.

  • Quality and testing page

Explains manufacturing standards, third-party testing, lot tracking and how to request a certificate of analysis, turning a common objection into a reason to buy.

  • Product quiz

Recommends a product or stack from a few questions about goals and routine, captures consent, and feeds answers into Klaviyo segments for matching follow-up.

  • Subscription explainer

Shows cadence options, how skipping and swapping works, and how to cancel, which reduces checkout hesitation and support tickets from surprised subscribers.

  • Bundles and stacks

Pre-built stacks by goal with a clear per-serving price, used as the landing page for creator traffic and as the upsell after a first order.

  • Where to buy

Links to the official Amazon Brand Store and any authorized retailers, so shoppers avoid unauthorized sellers and the brand controls where traffic lands.

Systems we integrate

The tools supplement brands already run on.

We build to your system of record rather than around it. Leads, calls, jobs and revenue land where your team already works, with the attribution attached.

  • Shopify

Store build, subscription checkout, product metafields for supplement facts and certificates of analysis.

  • Amazon Seller Central

Listings, testing documents, Subscribe and Save, Brand Registry, A+ content and Amazon Ads.

  • Klaviyo

Flows keyed to days of supply per SKU, SMS consent and subscriber segments.

  • Recharge

Subscription cadences, skip and swap, churn reasons and subscription events pushed into Klaviyo.

  • Okendo or Yotpo

Review requests timed after the product has been taken long enough to judge it.

  • Gorgias

Ticket tagging by product and issue, subscription actions from the helpdesk, escalation for adverse events.

  • Triple Whale or Northbeam

Blended attribution across Meta, Google, creators and Amazon halo, reported against contribution margin.

What we run the account by

  1. Subscriber retention by month.

Share of new subscribers still active at each monthly order, read by acquisition channel and by first product purchased.

  2. Blended new customer cost.

Total acquisition spend across Amazon, Meta, Google and creators divided by new customers across both channels in the same period.

  3. Contribution margin per order.

Revenue minus product cost, fulfillment, platform fees, discounts and ad spend, reported per channel so a busy channel cannot hide losses.

  4. Amazon TACoS.

Total Amazon ad spend divided by total Amazon sales, showing whether ads are building organic rank or simply buying every sale.

  5. Buy Box share.

Share of time the brand holds the Buy Box on core ASINs, flagging reseller undercutting and suppressed offers quickly.

Rules we respect

  • FDA and DSHEA claim rules.

Structure and function claims only, never disease claims, with the required FDA disclaimer, and the FDA notified of structure and function claims within 30 days of first marketing.

  • FTC substantiation and endorsements.

Health claims need competent and reliable scientific evidence, and creators, affiliates and reviewers must clearly disclose material connections. Incentivized or suppressed reviews are prohibited.

  • Amazon dietary supplement policy.

Supplements must pass Amazon's third-party testing and verification requirements, and listing content must match the physical label. Policy details change, so we check Seller Central before each launch.

  • California Proposition 65.

Products containing listed chemicals above safe harbor levels may need a clear warning for California buyers, on the site and in listings. Your counsel should confirm each product's status.

How an engagement runs

The supplement playbook.

  1. Audit claims, listings and documents.

We read every claim on the label, site, listings and ads, check Amazon testing status and account health, and map where subscription churn and reseller pressure are costing margin today.

  2. Fix the reorder engine first.

Recharge cadences, Klaviyo replenishment flows and Subscribe and Save are rebuilt around real days of supply, because acquisition spend only pays back once bottle two ships reliably.

  3. Scale acquisition by ingredient.

Amazon Ads, Meta, Google and creators launch by ingredient and goal, with compliant creative variations and budgets moved weekly toward whatever produces subscribers at an acceptable blended cost.

  4. Defend and expand.

Brand Registry enforcement, Buy Box monitoring and Vine for new SKUs protect the base, then line extensions and stacks are launched into the audiences and review profiles already built.

Why Theory Road

Why supplement brands choose us.

Theory Road runs its own Amazon Professional Seller accounts with Brand Registry. Testing uploads, suppressed listings, Subscribe and Save setup and reseller removal are routine work for us, not tickets we pass to a contractor.

  • Compliance is written in, not bolted onEvery headline, creator brief and A+ module is written as a structure and function claim with substantiation in mind, so the account does not stall when a platform reviewer or a regulator looks closely.
  • One system, both channelsAmazon and Shopify are run by the same team against the same margin model, so pricing, promotions and inventory decisions help both channels instead of starting a quiet war between them.

Questions

Hiring an agency for a supplement business.

Q01
Amazon agency for supplement brands
Yes, that is core work for us. We handle the dietary supplement testing and verification process, listing content that matches the label, Subscribe and Save, A+ content, Brand Store, Sponsored Products, Brands and Display, Vine for launches and unauthorized reseller removal through Brand Registry. We run our own Professional Seller accounts, so the Seller Central work is hands-on. We also tie Amazon results back to the Shopify side so the two channels are planned together.
Q02
How do I get my supplement approved on Amazon?
Amazon requires dietary supplements to be tested and verified by an approved third-party testing, inspection and certification provider, with documents covering identity, label claims and contaminants, and the product must come from a manufacturer following dietary supplement GMP. Requirements change, so we check the current policy in Seller Central before starting. We gather documents, make sure the listing matches the label exactly, and track the submission until the ASIN is live.
Q03
What claims can a supplement brand make in ads?
Under DSHEA a supplement can make structure and function claims, such as supporting normal sleep, but not claims to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent a disease, and those claims need the FDA disclaimer. The FTC also expects competent and reliable scientific evidence behind any health claim. We write copy inside those lines and flag anything that needs your regulatory counsel. We are not lawyers and do not give legal advice.
Q04
Can I run Meta ads for a weight loss supplement?
Usually yes, with limits. Meta restricts weight loss product ads to adults, prohibits before and after images and creative that implies negative self-perception, and reviews health claims closely. Google has its own healthcare and unapproved substance rules. We build weight management creative around routine, ingredients and energy rather than body transformation, and we test variations so one rejection does not stop the account.
Q05
How do you grow supplement subscriptions?
We start with the reorder date. Cadences in Recharge and Subscribe and Save are set from serving size, Klaviyo sends how-to-take content in the first two weeks, and reminders arrive before the bottle runs out. Skip and swap stay easy, because a skipped order is better than a cancellation. Then we read churn reasons monthly and fix the product page, flow or offer that caused them.
