In the Awin vs impact decision, Awin is a network-first choice: you pay a monthly fee plus a percentage of each tracked sale, and you get a managed publisher base of more than a million partners, strongest in the UK and Europe. impact.com is a platform-first choice: you pay a flat monthly software fee on a 12-month contract and run recruiting and partner management yourself. Pick on who will do the work and where your customers are, not on feature lists.
This guide is for in-house marketing leads and owners at brands doing roughly $5M to $500M in revenue who are choosing a first network or moving from one. We run affiliate programs for brands and we also publish on these networks, so we see both the advertiser dashboard and the publisher dashboard. If you have not picked a model yet, start with our guide to the best affiliate network for brands.
How the network model and the platform model differ.
Both tools track a click from a partner to your site, attribute the order, calculate commission and pay the partner. The difference is what sits around that core.
- Awin (network-first). Awin holds the publisher relationships, vets publishers onto the network, collects commission from you and pays partners in many currencies. Publishers join Awin once and can then apply to any program on it. Awin also sells tiers with more software and service as you grow. Its about page lists 30,000 advertisers, 1 million publishers and 17 locations, and says Awin is part of the Axel Springer group.
- impact.com (platform-first). impact.com sells you a partnership management system. You recruit partners, set contracts per partner, and manage affiliates, creators, customer referrals and business partners in one place. It has a partner marketplace for discovery, but the platform's role is software, and the program's growth depends on how actively your team or agency recruits.
- Who carries the work. On Awin, more of the discovery and compliance work is done by the network. On impact.com, more of it is yours, in exchange for more control over terms, data and partner types.
From the publisher side, the difference is visible every day. On a network like Awin, a publisher applies to a program and is often approved within a familiar interface alongside thousands of other brands. On impact.com, publishers also apply through a marketplace, but the brands that grow fastest there are the ones that send personal outreach, custom terms and fast approvals, because the platform does not do that for them.
Awin and impact.com fees as of November 2026.
Both vendors now publish prices for their entry plans. Enterprise tiers on both are quoted. Figures below are from each vendor's own pricing page as of November 2026, in USD.
| Plan | Monthly fee | Per-sale or volume fee | Term |
|---|---|---|---|
| Awin Access | $99 a month | 3.5% of each tracked transaction | 3-month minimum, 14 days' notice |
| Awin Accelerate | $199 a month | 2.5% of each tracked transaction | Not stated on the pricing page |
| Awin Advanced | Custom | Quoted | Quoted |
| impact.com Starter | $30 | 2.5% of revenue; limited to listed ecommerce platforms such as Shopify and WooCommerce | 12-month contract |
| impact.com Essentials | $500, includes up to $2,500 a month in partner payouts | None listed; extra payout volume billed a la carte | 12-month contract, setup at $250 an hour |

Sources: Awin US pricing and impact.com pricing. Awin's page states the tracking fee is a percentage of transaction value, with the example that Awin receives $3.50 on a $100 sale on Access. impact.com's page targets Essentials at brands up to $2 million a year in ecommerce revenue and Pro at $2 million to $15 million. For a deeper breakdown of impact's plans, see our guide to impact.com pricing.
A quick way to compare: multiply your expected monthly affiliate revenue by the Awin tracking rate and add the monthly fee, then compare that with the impact.com plan your payout volume needs. At $40,000 a month in affiliate revenue, Awin Accelerate's 2.5% is $1,000 plus the monthly fee, while impact.com Essentials is $500 if your partner payouts stay within the included $2,500. At $400,000 a month, Awin's percentage is $10,000, and you would be on impact.com Pro or Enterprise. Run this with your own numbers and get both quotes in writing, since enterprise terms on both sides are negotiated.
Publisher marketplaces and partner quality.
The size of a marketplace tells you little. What matters is whether the publishers who already reach your buyers are active there, and how much noise you have to filter.
- Awin. A broad base of content sites, coupon and cash-back sites, loyalty programs, comparison sites and sub-networks, with especially deep coverage of UK and European publishers. Awin's about page says it generated $19 billion in revenue for advertisers and $1.4 billion for publishers in its last financial year. Expect a high share of applications from coupon and loyalty publishers, which convert well but can claim credit for sales that would have happened anyway.
- impact.com. A marketplace of affiliates plus creators, media companies, app partners and B2B partners, and strong adoption among large US publishers and commerce content teams. Discovery tools are good, but most quality partnerships still come from direct outreach and negotiated terms.
- Overlap. Many large publishers work on both. The question is usually not whether a top publisher is available, but on which platform they prefer to be paid and whether they will take a call from your team.
Seen from the publisher side, two things decide whether we promote a brand: how fast applications are approved and how quickly commissions lock and pay. Programs that leave applications pending for weeks or reverse orders without explanation lose publishers on any platform.
Europe vs US strength.
Awin grew out of European affiliate networks and still has its deepest publisher coverage, local teams and payment rails in the UK, Germany and the rest of Europe. For a US brand selling into Europe, that local depth is the main reason to choose it, since publishers in those markets expect to be paid and supported in their own currency and language.
impact.com is US-born and strongest with US brands and US publishers, with international programs supported in the platform. Brands with most revenue in North America and a team that wants to own partner relationships often start there. Brands selling heavily in Europe sometimes run both: impact.com as the system of record and Awin for European reach, or the reverse. If you do that, deduplicate orders so two networks do not pay on the same sale.
What the ShareASale move into Awin means.
ShareASale, long a common first network for small and mid-size US brands, was owned by Awin and has been folded into the Awin platform. Awin announced the upgrade on March 10, 2025, said migrations would start at the end of the second quarter, and said the ShareASale platform would close by the end of 2025 (Awin announcement). Awin told users that tracking would switch over automatically and that publishers would not need to rejoin programs.
For brands this means three things. First, Awin's US publisher base now includes the long tail of bloggers and niche sites that built on ShareASale. Second, if you were a ShareASale merchant, your historical reports did not carry over unless you exported them, so check that you have the data you need for year-over-year comparisons. Third, a former ShareASale brand reconsidering its network now has a natural moment to compare Awin's tiers with impact.com, since both require some setup work anyway.
Tracking and integrations.
- Tag plus server-side. Both support a site tag on the confirmation page and server-to-server conversion reporting. Use both where you can: the tag for speed, the server call for accuracy when browsers block scripts. Our guide to affiliate postback URL setup covers the server side.
- Ecommerce plugins. Both offer connectors for the major ecommerce platforms. impact.com's Starter plan is limited to listed platforms such as Shopify, WooCommerce and BigCommerce.
- Returns and validation. Plan how cancelled and returned orders are reversed before commissions lock. On Awin and impact.com this can be automated from your order system; doing it by hand month after month is where most commission leakage starts.
- Attribution rules. impact.com gives finer control per partner, such as different commission for new versus returning customers or rules for coupon partners. Awin supports commission groups and conditions too; confirm the specific rule you need on your tier.
- Data access. Ask each vendor for API access to click and order data on your plan. impact.com lists API-based tracking on Pro and above; check which Awin tier includes the reporting you need.
Contract terms to read before you sign.
impact.com's published plans require a 12-month contract, and changing plans requires a new 12-month addendum, per its pricing page. Awin's Access plan lists a 3-month minimum with 14 days' cancellation notice. Enterprise contracts on both are negotiated, so read these clauses closely:
- Auto-renewal and the notice window to cancel
- Minimum monthly fees or minimum payout commitments, and what happens if you fall short
- Who owns the partner list and contact data if you leave
- Payment terms for commissions, deposits or prefunding, and late-payment penalties
- Whether historical click and order data can be exported on exit, and in what format
- Price changes at renewal
How to decide between Awin and impact.com.
| Situation | Awin tends to fit | impact.com tends to fit |
|---|---|---|
| Team capacity | Small or no dedicated partnerships staff | A partnerships manager or agency doing active recruiting |
| Geography | UK and European sales, or a US brand expanding there | Mostly US and North American sales |
| Partner types | Classic affiliates, content, coupon, loyalty | Affiliates plus creators, referrals and B2B partners in one system |
| Budget shape | Prefers costs that scale with sales | Prefers a fixed monthly cost and can commit to 12 months |
| Commission level | Higher commission rates, where a sale-based fee is a smaller share | Low-commission categories at volume, where a flat fee is cheaper per order |
Mistakes we see brands make.
- Comparing monthly fees only. Awin's percentage on every sale often outweighs the monthly fee, and impact.com's setup hours and 12-month term are easy to miss.
- Letting coupon and cash-back partners dominate. They convert, but without rules for new customers or code leakage they can take credit for sales your own marketing drove.
- Joining a marketplace and waiting. On either platform, programs that do not recruit stall within a few months.
- Skipping disclosure requirements. The FTC says endorsers should "make it obvious when you have a relationship" with a brand. Put disclosure rules in your program terms and check partners against them.
- Running two networks without deduplication. Two networks crediting the same order means paying twice.
- Slow approvals and unexplained reversals. Publishers notice, and they move effort to programs that pay reliably.
What to measure.
- Total cost of the channel: commission plus network or platform fees plus setup, as a share of affiliate revenue
- New customer share by partner type, so loyalty and coupon partners are judged fairly
- Reversal rate and the time from order to locked commission
- Active partners (those driving at least one sale a month), not total approved partners
- Revenue concentration in your top five partners
- Application approval time and publisher churn
When to bring in help.
Bring in help when the program needs recruiting time nobody has, when fees and commission are not tied to new customers, or when a migration between networks is coming. Theory Road runs affiliate partnerships on Awin, impact.com and other networks, and because we also publish on them, we set terms that partners respond to. Whoever you hire, our guide on how to hire an affiliate marketing agency lists what to check, and our explainer on outsourced program management covers how OPM fees work.
Is Awin or impact.com better for brands?
Neither is better across the board. Awin fits brands that want a network to bring publishers and that sell in the UK or Europe. impact.com fits brands with staff or an agency to recruit partners and that want creators, referrals and affiliates in one platform on a fixed monthly fee.
How much does Awin cost for advertisers?
As of November 2026, Awin's US pricing page lists Access at $99 a month (Awin sometimes runs lower promotional rates) plus 3.5% of each tracked transaction, Accelerate at $199 a month (shown at $99) plus 2.5%, and Advanced on custom pricing. The tracking fee is a percentage of the sale value.
How much does impact.com cost?
As of November 2026, impact.com lists Starter at $30 a month plus 2.5% of revenue for supported store platforms, Essentials at $500 a month and Pro at $2,500 a month with included partner payout caps, and Enterprise on custom pricing. Published plans require a 12-month contract.
What happened to ShareASale?
Awin, which owned ShareASale, announced on March 10, 2025 that ShareASale customers would be upgraded to the Awin platform and that ShareASale would close by the end of 2025. Tracking and publisher relationships moved over automatically.
Can I run Awin and impact.com at the same time?
Yes, and some brands do, often impact.com for the US and Awin for Europe. Assign each partner to one platform and deduplicate orders so the same sale is not paid twice.
Does Awin charge a fee on commission or on sales?
On sales. Awin's pricing page shows the tracking fee as a percentage of transaction value, so on a $100 sale on Access, Awin receives $3.50 regardless of the commission you pay the partner.
Which has more publishers, Awin or impact.com?
Awin says it has 1 million publishers. Raw counts matter less than whether the specific publishers who reach your buyers are active and responsive on the platform, so ask your target partners which they prefer.
How long does it take to switch from Awin to impact.com, or the reverse?
It depends on how many active partners you have and how tracking is built. Plan for a parallel period where both track, give partners clear dates and new links, and export historical data before the old contract ends.
